At the Environmental Compendium Association, we believe that environmental issues are human rights issues. Protecting our planet is not a choice, it is our collective responsibility.
On Saturday, January 25th, The Environmental Compendium Association took concrete action against pollution through a community clean-up campaign targeting River Ndongo in Buea.
River Ndongo, one of Buea’s vital waterways, has been heavily impacted by indiscriminate waste disposal. This pollution not only threatens the health of the local community and biodiversity, but also has far reaching consequences. The Ndongo River flows down to Mutengene and empties directly into the Atlantic Ocean, meaning waste dumped in Buea ends up polluting our ocean.
In the spirit of collective action, we joined forces with other Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) who share our vision for a cleaner, healthier environment. Together, volunteers worked to remove plastic waste, household trash, and other pollutants from the riverbed and riverbanks.
This critical work highlights two urgent realities:
- The need to address environmental degradation at its source through proper waste management.
- The need to promote sustainable practices within our communities.
This campaign was more than just a clean-up. It was a statement that we can and must fight for our ocean by keeping our rivers clean.
We extend our sincere gratitude to all CSOs, volunteers, and community members who showed up and took action.
The fight against pollution continues. Let us unite to protect our waterways and ensure a healthier environment for all.
Together, we are protecting our rivers to protect our future.
